Scripture Union Daily Guide 4th April 2025 Outline
1 Samuel 23:1-6: It surely pays many dividends to be intimately related to God and to be absolutely dependent on Him. David is a good example here for us to follow. Out of love, David wanted to help Keila against the Philistines, but he would not take any step without first finding out if it is God’s perfect will to do so. Notice the number of times he inquired from the Lord and the reason for this (1 Samuel 23:2-4). Furthermore, he did not depend on yesterday’s guidance to win today’s battles. Instead, he sought the Lord’s will afresh (1 Samuel 23:10-12). How dependent are you on God for guidance and direction in life?
1 Samuel 23:7-14: Saul planned to attack David at Keila but David’s intimacy with, and dependence on God, saved him. Against popular opinion, David had to leave Keila, but anyone would have thought that the people of Keila would preserve David and so he should have stayed there for safety. Obedience to God’s instructions lead to escape from calamities, and preservation. Saul hunted David continuously, but God shielded him because the name of the Lord is a strong tower (Proverbs 18:10)!
